This
is an honor to be selected as the next leader of the Hunt
Valley Rotary Club. It is a unique leadership position unlike
others I have had in the military and in civilian life,
now being on my third company. To lead is an opportunity
to build upon what previous leaders have put together.
The torch or bell in this case has been passed to the
next leader. I will continue the mission of my predecessors
to build the club and strengthen our charitable giving ability.
Rotary International and District themes will come and go
but our purpose for existing does not. In order for us to
be viable and support the current RI theme of “Building
Communities and Bridging Continents” we must be a strong
club both in member strength – that is engaged members -
and a financially healthy foundation – the James W. Houck
Foundation - our charitable giving arm.
This is a team and the word is 'we'. The Hunt Valley
Rotary Club has great individuals but it is a team and when
we speak it is with 'we' – all of us engaged to keep us
moving forward. The board has approved our calendar, we
have completed our strategic planning with goals, and the
bylaws updated to guide the club. The board will approve
our events and projects based on your input. So board meetings
are open to you – check in on your leadership!
Finally, please support your leaders in their efforts.
It can be a lonely job. I do not view this as ‘my year’
but rather I am just the next leader in a long line of before
and after. It remains a club year where we have the opportunity
to accomplish whatever we set out to do. So, this is why
we need to have fun too.
Let’s all be good Rotarians and remember we are here
to serve above self.
Yours in Service,
Eric Miller, President, 2010-2011
About Us Rotary International
You've probably heard a lot about Rotary, but do you really
know what we are all about? We're not really a 'club',
but we're an active, non-political, non-religious, service
organization with over 1.2 million members worldwide.
We're not really a charity either, but The Rotary Foundation
is one of the largest volunteer-run charitable foundations
in the world. In fact, in 2007, the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation gave TRF over $100 million dollars for
our global efforts in fighting polio and other diseases,
ending hunger, supporting education, and promoting goodwill.
Membership Rotarians are business and professional leaders who
take an active role in their communities while greatly enriching
their personal and professional lives. A Rotary club contains
a diverse group of professional leaders from the community
that the club serves. Our current membership consists
of 36 regular and 4 honorary members. Please

for more membership information.

Activities The Rotary Club of Hunt Valley is an active part
of the Hunt Valley/Northern Baltimore County community.
Through our non-profit 501(c)(3), the
James W.
Houck Foundation, the Club sponsors the annual Four-Way
Test Program in Baltimore county schools. Each year,
over 1,000 students from local elementary, middle, and high
schools participate in the contest to demonstrate the values
of living by the Four-Way Test.
More importantly, our Club is all about
FUN! From golf outings to wine tastings to Shawan
Downs, the Rotary Club of Hunt Valley is committed to finding
exciting ways for our membership to raise funds and awareness
